I saw it on CNN last night (up until the leader took the knife out) and I felt a little sick....
But, these things go on everyday, but because they arent forced down our throats by the mass media, because we don't see the video of it happening....should we feel any differently about it.... I think not....

Yes we are the sum total of our sensory input, but it is how we process that info that makes us who we are. Because we have free will we can in theory reprocess our experiences and change the way we think and act or react as the case may be, to different situations, it's just that most people don't.
From my observations anyway, it's true that a leopard can't change his spots but it is bound by instinct however we have the power to reason so we also have the power to make a conscious change in our behavior.
I don't know that you could ever tear down your experiences as you put it, I do think you could reprocess an experience and learn to react to it differently next time or even change your view on it as it exists for you now.
