The US were nearly screwed by a ridiculous ref in the World Cup this afternoon, but managed to draw Italy 1-1 despite being reduced to 9 men. This keeps their hopes alive for advancement. With a US win against Ghana and an Italy win on Thursday, the US will advance to round 2. There are other complex scenarios that could see us through if we score a bunch of goals in a victory, and/or Italy loses by a boatload, but those are far less likely.
Good thing for us Eddie Pope will miss the next game after receiving one of the red cards against the US today, as he has been awful in the first two matches. This is tough to say as someone who has been a huge Eddie Pope fan for the last 11 years, but it is what it is.
