Mood: “The Last Goodbye”, Billy Boyd

It’s A Storied Experience

It’s a little crazy to me to think I’m almost ‘done’ with writing my book. It is a thing that I needed to do, and yet as I get close to the end of it, I am certain it will not be for publication, but for friends and such. I do intend to self publish a limited amount of hardbacks. Why do I think it is not ‘publishable’? Well, it might be with a lot of restructuring and such, but this was more of a labor of love, based upon my character and experiences during my many years at a RenFaire. For instance, my character’s name was taken from what was Irish slang for fighting, taken from an annual fair in an Irish town of the same name: Donnybrook. Donny Brooke. During my run of directing my faire group, I encouraged such fun names, and so in writing the book in honor of them all as well, I include their names. To anyone who was not involved with that group, the name will seem ridiculous and take away from the seriousness that the story becomes.

Therefore, it will need, and will eventually get, such revisions as will make it more publishable. Now, I wouldn’t bother with that, but for the fact that I already know there will be a sequel to it. Eventually.

Other projects are already somewhat in the works, such as novelizing my brother’s serial radio series he did for his university graduation project in the early 90s, of which I have mentioned in these blogs before. Also what will likely be a series of books on returning heroes of legends.

All of this, these other projects and revisions to the existing story, come from writing that story over the almost-ten yeas it has taken, on and off. A hell of an experience!

A Mood Explaination

My choice of music as my Mood for this blog comes from my leaving the directing of my RenFaire group. Leaving the Fair, in fact. It was not only my farewell to the group but fit perfectly the reason for my character, Donny Brooke, leaving them, the genesis for the book. Now, I may very well have enough for now between 430-450 pages before the massive revisions and polishing begin, but I am pretty well near the end of the writing, so the song fits, to my mind, there as well. Though, I suppose, as there will be a sequel it is not really an end.

That Ol’ Writing Update…

It has amazed me that I have been able to keep so much of the entire story in my head, from beginning to end, and end not even written yet. It’s there, I know where it’s going, even further than the notes I did write down. What I did not expect was that, getting to the part of the story where I go into Donny’s love interest’s life after he was taken from her would be difficult for me to write. It was a bad time for her, in part, being forced to do things that are very uncomfortable for me to write out even if explicit details are left out. But necessary for her development as the story continues. I have struggled with a good part of it and it has taken me a few weeks to write a few pages, even as I know those pages will be heavily revised when i go over them again; I just needed to get the story written down.

Even so, it got to a part that I became confused about my own story timeline and had to go back to reorient it in my mind. Which then resulted in beginning a revision of the earlier ‘finished’ writing, making sure any missed plots were picked up need to be resolved. And that is were I am today; still making progress, but not getting very further in writing the end of the thing.

If you’ve made it to this sentence, I hope you have the grandest of days!
