Mood: ‘A Wink and a Smile’ by Harry Connick, Jr.

Good Golly, Great Gifts!

This last Christmas, I received a gift I did not give enough credit to at the time. I definitely thanked the person who presented it to me, as it was something dear to my Collector’s Heart: books. Not just any books, but vintage books! Even the ‘wrapping’ was great, as it was just tied together with coarse twine, no paper wrapping.

This was given to me at a party and though I was grateful and showed it to she who gifted me, it was set aside so I could continue my hosting duties. With the fun a busy-ness of the Holidays, this was set aside under the tree for almost a full month (I keep all the Christmas decor up through January, as my brother’s birthday, the one who passed, is on January 31st). Now, these are books that would not catch my eye were I in such a shop as would have such bounty, but I am, as stated, grateful to have them!

Children’s books, the ‘Robinson Crusoe’ is from 1895 and the ‘H&T Pioneers’ is from 1946. Inside the cover of the ‘Robinson Crusoe’…

Barry Neill was learning to spell his name with a nib pen and inkwell. The Romance this lends the book is just appealing to me! As one who loves to write, I am also fascinated by the writing ‘in words of one syllable’. That would be difficult, and I can imagine myself stopping frequently to think of single syllable words to replace ‘extraordinary’ and the like!

Too Many Books, or Just Being Shelf-ish?

So, what brought the idea for this blog on? Simply needing to rearrange my bookshelves to fit more the the almost weekly additions of books, tomes, grimoires, palimpsests and such. It is on-going and will likely need my closer attentions next weekend, but if came across these two books again and was distracted! However, I love all of my friends of these shelves and so I thought to give a bookshelf update of a kind.

I have ‘next to read’ stacks

and I have desktop books

and the ‘regular’ disheveled (for now) shelves

and that’s still not the totality of the shelves…I just couldn’t fit them all in a few shots, but you get the picture. Literally.

I figure a good 35% of them have been read at this point, but that does not, nor will it, stop me from acquiring new novels; my interests are varied and I tend to indulge them.

My problem, and a good one to have, is that I am running out of shelf space, though I am presently looking in antique stores, when the opportunity presents itself, to look for a fitting addition for more book space.

Be well and I bid you Peace.
