In Tokyo, I went to Harajuku 'cos it was recommended in the Lonley Planet. It was funny, outside the tube station there's the big assembly point for all the punk/alt/artsy kids. And they/'re all there to hang out and pose. Its almost like a weird merge of Joy Division/Hello Kitty/Manga. They're all smiles and happy to pose for a tourist with a camera. I guess thats Tokyo for you. They have the metro and phone cards with pictures of kittens on them, held by grumpy 9 to 5'ers on the way to work. I liked it though...it was fun, although they do have the shopping areas with Gaps and nike stores that look like they were transplanted out of the States...guess you never leave home.
