THE DAY I DIED
One year ago today, I had a life-changing experience. My
appendix burst and I almost died..in fact my heart stopped
beating for a few seconds and I was clinically dead. I would
have died had I not been in the hospital and on my way to
the operating room. For those who have ever had appendi-
citis, you may be familiar with the pain. It's excruciating.
It feels like you are being stabbed in the abdomen with a
hot knife. Well I had these pains for a few days and ignored
them, I don't like to sit in an ER for hours and called my
doctor to schedule an appointment - I was told I had to
wait for 3 weeks. Finally, the pain was unbearable- I was at
work and was going to go home and sleep. If so, I would have met my maker. I passed out in the lobby at work, my boss called 911,they rush me to the hospital,etc..was on my
way to surgery when it burst. The appendix is basically a useless organ which, when it bursts, floods your body w/
poison. I spent 6 hours being operated on because they had to flush it from my body and 5 days in ICU.. got out a few days before Thanksgiving. I'm in good health and played
college athletics, but apparently the appendix just acts up randomly. I didn't find God or the like, but I did learn to
appreciate things a lot more and slow down a bit.
Time flies didn't seem like 1 year ago today.
