I saw this movie THE BOOK OF LIFE for the first time tonight. Shot on DV. I guess Hal Hartley didn't have enough money to put together an hour long movie on film for this project, created by some frenchmen, that involved having a director from every country shoot a film about the last days of 1999. Hal was the USA choice.
Anyway, I don't know if anyone has seen it but it involves Jesus flying into New York with Mary Magdalene (P.J. Harvey!) and opening up another seal in the book of life (a laptop). He's really bummed that he has to go through with it. Meanwhile, Satan is hanging out in bars depressed too since he'd like to continue doing his dirty deeds. Oh, and everyone talks in iambic pentameter. Satan will occasionally have mini-soliloques in front of strategically placed microphones in the streets.
I kind of liked it since I'm really interested in what narrative stuff people have made with DV. The whole thing is shot with slow shutter speeds that can be real jarring at first. That didn't really bother me after a while. I kind of like that crappy video quality effect.

i've never seen that movie, but it sounds interesting.... i'll have to add it onto my large list of movies i will eventually get around to watching.
