so, i finished all of the sketch work for the first draft of the comic i want to submit to the Small Press Expo this year. the seven page draft is written in full and composed (roughly) how it will appear. this weekend, i want to tighten up the dialogue and make it sound more lyrical. i need to stage some of the action a little better as well.

it's cool, i've never done a first draft of a comic before, so it's nice being able to see where it comes up short and where it has strengths; i can also manipulate the story itself through arrangement and selectivity of the writing and drawings.

it's like i'm a real, live artist, tee hee.

i had a meeting with my business advisors this morning. they are two retired gentleman who volunteer their free time as consultants. they are great guys. the highlight of todays meeting, was when marty (who i have met with three times and reminds me of what the archetype for a grandfather in any story should be)... when marty closed his eyes and covered his forehead with his right hand and started muttering under his breath "twenty-four, twenty-four, twenty-four..." in complete bewilderment at the sudden realization that i am twenty-four years old and the minute i get a good, stable job, i'm already asking them for advice on how to setup a publishing company.

they are two of my favorite people in the universe. they give me such a great sense of perspective. i've never met anyone who can see through me so fucking fast like those guys can.

before we finished this morning, marty looked at me and said "you need to stop thinking you have to prove yourself. you've proved yourself. you don't have to prove anything to the world."

it was such a telling statement. the gist of it, was that i don't need to prove i can be a salesman, a business man, a graphic designer, a web designer, an illustrator, a writer, a comics artist, a business manager or anything else, because i've proved that i'm competent and creative and what i really need to do now, is chill the fuck out and work on stuff that has meaning for me.

also, the other fun part is that they kept calling me the wrong name. not to poke fun, i love them to death, but its just that funny "grandfather" quirk, where no matter how much they remember about a meeting two years ago, they're still gonna call me jason five or six times. so great. i can't wait to be an old man. i'm gonna be so good at it.

i was forty minutes early for the meeting, so i drew comics on a bench in coolidge corner and listened to ZIGGY STARDUST. i ran into quiescence's girlfriend Sara this morning when she was waiting for work to open. that was cool, although i had nothing to say, and, as usual rudely ended the converation by walking away in a bout of confusion. i'm sure she didn't take offense.

i get to draw tomorrow!

i just did a bunch of push-ups, i feel awesome.

i'm gonna go hang out with holden caulfield now. i don't know why, but we've been hanging all week... for that nine minutes each night when i lay down before i pass right the fuck out from being so tired.

i'm looking forward to this weekend, i hope you have as much fun as i hope to have.

Thanks for the advice, after reading my journal again after sobering up, I realized it make sense, um well grammatically, but is full of gaps and probably only really means anything those unfortunate few who have had to sit through my endless retelling of the drama.

I hate making girls cry. Especially girls that I thought didn't care enough about me that I could say anything that would make them cry.

The key thing to learn from that entry is that I got the discount at ManRay. I'm still stoked about that.

Awesome you are drawing a comic. It's so very OC of you (yes, you may kick me for saying that).

...

fuck, I should go hang out with Holden Caufield too. He does that disillusioned not-caring thing so well. I need a little bit of that.

Are you gonna be at ManRay tonight? I'm not sure if I'm gonna go there or check out The Crypt. Right now I feel like I might just go to bed.

Thanks bro. I think you caught the gist of what I was attempting to say.
