so, the big-ass, high-pressure meeting went much better than expected today. although, there was an obvious amount of resistance and stubborness on the part of all of the people that i implied may not have been doing their jobs thoroughly enough. to make a long story short, one of the employees sorta threw down the gauntlet and stated numerous times that i should have to do (his) job for a couple of days. to which i replied that i spent two years doing his job in two of the four sign shops i've worked in in the last five years.
i thought it was settled at that, but then i went upstairs to the area where the work in question was being done, to find that two of the newer employees didn't actually know what they were doing and were causing all kinds of havoc in one of our downstream processes... so, because of that
and because of (as my boss says) the allure of engaging in a "kindergarten-style" playground battle over whether or not i can assert myself in the position, i'm gonna spend two days next week hitting that department like a wrecking ball.
i decided today, that if i have to learn how to do every single job in my company (we're talking almost 20 different skills) and then do each one for two days so i can be sure new employees are being trained properly, than fuck it, i can learn 20 new skills in two months. bring it on!
haha. man, my job is so much fun. especially now that i'm not focused on designing and managing our identity... they gave all of my work to some designer who is not even a tenth as good, so all of the work i created in 9 weeks of designing is actually going right into the toilet, but, whatever. that isn't my responsibility anymore.
we've got a "lean manufacturing" consultant coming in on monday. he's got fifteen years of experience and worked directly under japanese trainers from toyota for seven years, so it'll be interesting to see how well i'm implementing these ideas based only on the sparse books i've read, knowledge of my industry and common sense.

sorry about that. after a 40 hour week of being obsessed with the sign shop, that stuff just comes out. in other news, "Michael Caine" by MADNESS is the best fucking song in the world. the second best song in the world is "The Disintegrators" by MEGADETH...
and just in case you were wondering, "Baggy Trousers" and "Embarrassment" (both by MADNESS) are in a tie for third place.

looking forward to this weekend, get to see fenchurch and minimalism and there are even rumors that i may see my wonderful, awesomest-pal granny for the first time since fucking december of last year.
crossing my fingers on this one
!
oh, and tonight pants and i are watching THIS movie:
***edited to add: "Don't Stand So Close to Me" by The Police is a runner-up for best song ever ***
***edited again to add: I bet you never thought I'd type that in here.***
***edited once again to add: But, really, if you knew me well enough, you'd know that I LOVE that song!!!***
