i am tired, cold and confused.
but, i have a bed; so, i'm doing better than i was last year...
IN YOUR FACE WORLD!
fuck yeah baby, i got craziness exploding out of my pores right now i'm gonna drop so much graphic art on 2005 y'all are gonna get paper cuts! (no... no paper cuts, i take that back... but i'm TOTALLY gonna draw all year).
without further nonsense; i bring you two of the finest panels from Frank Miller's SIN CITY:
isn't MARV beautiful?
seriously, the first SIN CITY has the most incredible black and white artwork i have EVER seen in a comic book. Miller's use of contrast, contour, shadow and lighting is at a level that many comics artists will never attain. his attention to form and detail is admirable.
the first SIN CITY book was one of the first major graphic novels (along with THE CROW and GRENDEL TALES : DEVILS AND DEATHS) to show me a whole world of creativity and personal expression in comics that made the standard superhero works look pale, weak and embarrassing in comparison.
all three artists who worked on the above-mentioned books (Frank Miller, James O'Barr and Edvin Biukovic) had a TREMENDOUS influence on me.
i can sit and look through SIN CITY and just stare at the pages. i just sit there and stare at the graphic works of a master of my chosen form.
one of these days i'm gonna write seriously about some of my favorite artists; would anybody actually read that (or should i stick to the girl-crazy format
)?
aoife sent me here earlier and i'm still recovering...
