this'll probably be a brief update with very little girl or work stuff.

the other night i caught the vice presidential debates. i was very, very impressed with edwards. for the first half-hour of the debates i considered getting his face tattooed on my calf. he came on strong, constantly calling dick cheney on his numerous distortions and blatant lies. it was awesome. i had been wishing kerry would do that for the last fucking six months. it shouldn't have been so surprising though, edwards was/is a trial lawyer, he may not have debated like that before, but he should sure as hell know how to argue his point. it was a fairly even debate, but edwards definitely gave me some faith in him.

cheney had an interesting tactic of passing on his opportunies to dispute edwards' accusations. i thought cheney came off many, many times as an arrogant ass. the kind of guy who ends up being a shitty boss or other authoritative figure. i thought it was very disrespectful to the voting citizens who were actually watching the debate to make an informed decision. you are there to DEBATE, not be arrogant.

at one point, you may or may not know, cheney mentioned a non-partisan website as a means of disputing edwards allegations that he profited from illegal activities as ceo of halliburton, cheney gave the wrong web address and all viewers who went to that site ended up here.

awesome.

the real site that he misnamed was this one, my new favorite website.

the best part about ALL of this, is that not only did cheney make the mistake in the domain name that was capitalized on by his opponents, but the actual site does not even refute edwards accusations in their entirety. as their most recent update points out, edwards was dead-on with almost all of his accusations (the rest of which were slight misconceptions, not outrageous blatant lies like the administration is used to providing).

all in all, it appears that, as usual, there are lies and half truths all around the board at these debates. but, my research into these statements (on both sides) points to bush/cheney as blatant liars and kerry/edwards as making slight misconceptions and very rarely anything that could really be described as a lie. my favorite criticism of kerry's statments from the debates was from when kerry said he had lost men in combat or something like that, the Boston Herald pointed out that none of the men in Kerry's company were killed, but, he did have five friends who were killed. oh, thats all, just five of his fucking friends killed in a war he fought in that the other candidates avoided?

i was also impressed by the bush/cheney team's continuing stance on the war and their complete inability to answer any direct questions on it. over five times edwards called cheney on drawing links between iraq and 9/11 that have been proven non-existant, but cheney continued to make these sly allusions, later trying to justify the war after-the-fact. here is a metaphor i developed of the bush/cheney view of the war on iraq:

lets say that you and i are roommates (and that we live in a house with three other people), i think you stole my snickers bar, and i confront you about it, you deny it. it becomes my obsession, i discuss it with all of my other roommates and they mention it to you but eventually suggest that i drop it, because you don't have my snickers bar, without the approval of my fellow roommates i kick the living shit out of you, crippling you severly and endangering your ability to make a living or take care of yourself (and i have no interest in helping you take care of yourself). it turns out, after the fact, upon really taking a FUCKING second to think about the situation (and ignoring the media's raw-raw patriotism support of me kicking your ass) it turns out, you never took the snickers bar. i take a lot of heat on this from my roommates, and i admit numerous times, that you did not have the candy bar and my attack was not justified. two weeks later, i find out that over six months ago, you had fucked my girlfriend. now, every time someone mentions my error in judgement that resulted in a debilitating ass-kicking, i explain that i was justified because you had fucked my girlfriend, even though, i had no idea beforehand, that you did.

when bush and cheney lose the election, they (and rice, rumsfled, wolfowitz, etc) should be fucking executed.
