anybody remember my "pieces of april" journal entry? well, i just watched a movie i'd been meaning to rent for over a year and a half called "my first mister" with albert brooks, leelee sobieski, micheal mckean, carol kane, and john goodman (the last three weren't mentioned on the front of the box or i would've rented over a year and a half ago). anyway, it looked somewhat interesting, but the packaging was marketing it as an "oh look, she's all teenage and punk and goth and this guy is middle-aged and conservative, how CRAZY would it be if circumstances caused them to be around one another? CRAZY." Y'know, that kinda hollywood bullshit.

turns out its a fucking amazingly well-written and original movie. the acting is incredible. the story is one of a kind. it's fucking sad and fucking enriching and so goddamn real. its like "pieces of april" in that its a realistic drama about a fucked-up and damaged family just trying to find love. it is so fucking good.

i want to take a shit on the box. fuck lowest-common-denominator marketing.

if i marketed and designed the movie i would've done a much better job. (although i probably would've put a huge starburst on the cover that said "featuring Michael McKean of SPINAL TAP").

anyway, if anyone's seen it give a shout out.

My Day
By: BuckyKatt666

1. wake up really late because even though i bought two alarm clocks i kept one under my bed (and shut it off in my sleep) and the other i set to pm instead of am.
2. get to work an hour and a half late for the second day in a row. i am upset by this since my job is pretty much the reason my life has been so on track for the last few months and i've never been treated so good as an employee in my entire working career (over 10 years).
3. leave work at 2pm. go to the dojang and workout by myself. do kicks up and down the floor, work the bag for a while, and hit the weight machines. get a good sweat going.
4. come home and waste time on SG then eat lunch.
5. write in my non-electronic-internet-friends-don't-read-me paper journal.
6. work on organizing my notes on the website i'm developing into 27 separate folders.
7. go to herrell's cafe, get an iced tea and a brownie and work out the panel arrangement for my debut comic story. a boy plays guitar, he sucks bad. a girl plays guitar, she is good, and she also does an acoustic cover of "You Could Be Mine" by Guns 'n Roses. Excellent.
8. rent movies.
9. come home, make dinner.
10. eat dinner, watch "my first mister," and work on character sketches for the company mascots of the company i'm developing the website for.
11. type in online journal.

today was a very standard day for me. but at some point one hour ago it occured to me that i really like being alive and the girl stuff doesn't really bother me nearly as much as i think it does. perhaps its because the comic is about getting through the girl stuff and working on it makes me feel better. perhaps its just cause i worked-out today, listened to live music and drew for a while.

maybe its just because sometimes i realize that for how much of a struggle it is for me to get what i want; i always get it, i never quit. and every once in a while i realize i'm not doing all that bad at my life and i take a minute to enjoy it.

back to a melancholy girl entry by tomorrow. promise.

Wow I'd LOVE to see the Adicts. I really enjoy their live c.d with Vice Squad. I can't believe they are still touring..good for them.

Stiff Little Fingers would be great to see too.

Prince of Darkness scared the shit out of me when I was younger (about 14?), and Mouth of Madness was really creepy for a while but the ending dropped the ball. The weird thing about this film when I first saw it in the theater was that for the first 10-15 minutes the sound was out of sync. We didn't know if that was supposed to be part of the film because it seemed appropriately strange.
