Update your journal, you slack-ass! Jeez.....

The drive from Dallas to LA was pretty uneventful, even though we ran into a heck of a snowstorm between Amarillo and Albequerque. The hardest part of it all, was having to leave just one thing behind - I left the biggest piece of my heart in Dallas.

Her name is Michelle. She's been a close friend of mine for the past year or so, and about my only real social outlet in Dallas. Over time, I grew to really cherish her company. She always captivated me, but it wasn't until just before my departure from the area, that I really began to understand the influence she had on me.

I left her with the only gifts I could, that might hope to express my heart to her. I recorded a CD of myself singing some of the most powerful songs I could find to express the words I never had the courage to say to her in person, poured my heart into a final goodbye note, and left them both on her doorstep the evening before I hopped aboard my UHaul and headed out West.

The Letter : "Regrets"

I haven't heard from her since. I've given her some time to sort out her own reaction to the bomb I dropped. I intend to contact her soon, though.

On a less personal note, Los Angeles is definitely beginning to grow on me. I like the weather a lot more than Dallas - especially with the recent rains we've been having. Having grown up in Seattle, these dreary overcast skies are like a warm blanket for my soul.

I've moved in with my oldest brother, Scott, in Van Nuys. It's simply a joy to finally be spending more time with him, as he and I haven't been able to keep in touch with one another for some time, due to our individually busy schedules and our tendency to seek isolation in our free times. He hates my cats, as they have been eating his house-plants and generally causing your typical kitty-havoc. Really, it just means we have to make the apartment a bit more cat proof - a living situation I've always been accustomed to, but to which he's having trouble adjusting. It'll get better, no worries there.

One of the major reasons I moved out here - beyond the all-consuming social rut that I had found myself in, in Dallas - was to hopefully find the means to further my singing career, or possibly even get into acting again. So far, progress has been just about non-existant. Although, the two guys that were re-tiling our bathroom recently did have some modest contacts - one is a good friend of Kelly Coffey's husband (she is what you might call a one-hit wonder in Country Music), and the other is a web designer with quite a load of talent (something I'll be needing, down the line). However, due to my hectic work schedule, I've currently been unable to really pursue anything along these lines - working 9 hour days, along with commuting 1+ hr each way, really takes a toll on the amount of time I can spend doing anything except eating and sleeping. Heck, I even had to type up this journal at work so that I'd have something to post when I got home!

My time constraints will hopefully be improving in the near future. My brother is a professional make-up artist that has been getting more and more work lately. If all goes according to plans, it shouldn't be too long before he's making decent enough money in the industry, that I can finally get the hell out of this cubicle wonderland, and plant myself in a job with a more leisurely schedule, thereby allowing me additional free-time to pursue my real goals & dreams. And, quite honestly, even if Scott can't find himself more lucrative work in the industry, I may find myself too fed up with my job to continue. Only time will tell, though.

The band that Scott works as Visual Director for has a gig at the Hard Rock Cafe @ CityWalk (Universal Studios) on Sunday evening. If any of you might be interested in a very unique & energetic blend of salsa, hip-hop, and jazz, please don't hesitate to show up and cheer 'em on. The band's name is 'Petra Luna', and I've yet to have the pleasure of attending one of their gigs, but my brother tells me it's really an outstanding stage show in addition to having a lot of talent.
I leave you with this parting thought :

"In times of change, learners inherit the Earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists."
