'from one cheek to another' timothy r g, 05/23/2007
Turn the other cheek
get it kicked too;
war is never more than war,
expression of the darkened heart,
expression of the asleep mind,
expression of the wanton soul,
expression of the hatred we feel towards others
the way that we 'bite and devour one another;'
turn the other cheek:
let us go beyond the Garden,
not just a stoll,
not just a cool breeze's embrace,
not just a hiss directing our way,
not just a prelude to flaming swords
the way beyond CSN&Y's prayer,
turn the other cheek
kissed twice,
then the third time,
the Sun kissed first, 'lest I die.'
Memorial Day is coming, a day in which we are told that we as as America 're-member' the murdered, the slain, the hurt, those sent off to kill in behalf of what one nation calls patriotism, wherewith we are also taught to not realize that those that one nation sends to kill patriotically are also doing the same. All the 'fallen' are heroes, men and women all. Why? Because they are in conscience protecting 'their' people from the evil doers that their leaders told them are the enemy. Those we memorialize are worth the memory. I pray that we come to learn to do war no more, and that we the people of all nations refuse to the bidding of our leaders. The enemy we kill is the child, grandchild, brother, sister, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, lover, friend, unknown enemy, beloved once image-bearer who shared the same breath. Let the 'person' in us cry out and refuse to kill another. All 'we' need to do is to refuse to do their bidding. If they choose to still kill then put them in prisons, the only good they thing that they're for, a place for those who only choose to perpetuate violation of others. Love does make a difference. Love lived is the embracing of the other, another. Love blooms into hope, faith and peace.
in memory of the fallen,
may their Memory be Eternal,
may all the in Blessed Repose be known,
love,
hope,
faith,
Peace.
Give it all a chance.
