Poetry Reading coll from this last evening invitational night. Fun and cool, and here's just a few of the more fun ones from my persepective.

'Cats' timothy r gates, 6/13/2009

cats,
i'm not a cat person
god,
i don't believe
damn felines,
they love me.
I smile at every
purr,
though it
truly grates me
then i smile,
again.
I laugh, aloud
loud, real loud...

'Gran Torino and Mustang Men'
note:obvious inspiration, perhaps, came from my initial response to the movie 'Gran Torino,' and then my reflections upon the +'s and -'s of these days from my youth. like all reflections, and all else, they're only lived out in the present. timothy

'Lickity-split' timothy r gates, 6/09/2009

Lickity-split
spit
bit by bit
need a
kit
wave to
Brit
Peace given a chance
does show that
all we need is love
Tatta-tat-tat
splat
sat on a hat
waved,
passer by thought
i tossed them the
finger
Fit for shit
sit
lit through wit
waved to
heaven
hell said,
'hi.'

'Pentecostal Purgatory' timothy r gates, 6/07/2009

kneeling prayers
reeling spares
caring spiel
airing zeal
up, down
another's aphorism
yet, more terrorism
purgatorial flames
pentecostal claims
drunken lit
sunken kit
another's pope
yet, more dope
nope
yep
babel's retrogression
babel's suppression
babel's neo-progression
babel's purgation
line sewn
spine hone
tongues flapping
tongues clapping
slapping divinity
tapping sublimity
i'd say, 'f' it'
but,
i don't
i won't...

'Awakened' or 'Insomnia Resurrected' timothy r gates, 5/31/2009

Awakened
sleep gone
arms wrapped around my
frame,
gone.
exhausted
liberated
chained
unlocked passion's extended fingers,
prayer.
Hallucinations
elicitation
invocation
the sound of her slurp,
amnesias.
Awakened
insomnia resurrected

'Buy American!' timothy r gates, 5/24/2009

protesters, sing-holders
(designer sandals, hemp t-shirts)
'Down with consumerism!'
'Down with facade Bookstores!'
(t-shirts stitched in Vietnam)
we protest the
Mega-stores,
But didn't we stop
shopping at the
Mom & Pop,
the first Inde-Stores?
neo-protest signs,
paper from Mexico
markers from Indonesia
'Buy American!'
Every one else does.

'those damn...

then,
so do
I.

Note: Thank you to all my virtual, albeit many are as true as any face to face, friends. You

'no metaphor when wrapped'

timothy r gates, 4/26/2009 inspired by Muddy Waters 'Champagne & Reefer' Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHowqKYSXNI

metaphoric and euphemisms,
for me,
these days

still
Champagne & Reefer
embraced by your lover
never lonely
even if there's no bong
the pressing of her
frame
better than
strawberry wine
or the gold from my youth,
no metaphor
when wrapped.

'4 re the Royal Gorillas' timothy r gates, 4/21/2009 collection w/newest being last

Silver Back Royalty (trg, 6/21/03)

Sitting alone
on a mountain side,
now only a hill,
under equators
dew filled foliage,
banqueting
on mother earths
array of delights.
Once there were
mountains
everywhere you looked,
tall peaking up
though the clouds.
No one dared
to enter your domain.
Maybe baby Jesus
played with...

tita:
I used to love watching the gorillas at Busch Gardens. I'd go hang out during my lunch breaks from the show. I felt pretty lucky to look at such incredible beasts everyday. Fantastic!

'Paschal Lament' timothy r gates, 4/18/2009

Listening to
Bach, Handel
Garcia and Dylan
BB kicks in full swing,
Lucille never tiring of his
touch.

Brush to canvass
yellows, blues, charcoal
Van Gogh, Turner,
Carrington's study in hands Strachey
Irises never weary of blue
skies.

Darkness leans
listens, seeing
light's giving its shadow
'Behold what others call void'
present silence
gift of one tear.

'i come to the Garden alone' timothy r gates, 4/16/2009

i come to the Garden
alone
the dew, i pray, is resting
prey, is arresting
gods and goddesses
dance,
but, here, i ask to be
excluded
the Garden's
allure
a hiss,
desire's lust:
'My right!'
i prefer,
proffer in the coffer
no incessant need to
get back.
Alone,
with my imps, fairies, pixies
the ones...
