Hello everyone! So here is another piece I just recently finished. It's a bit of a self reflection piece, I just tried to pretty it up a bit.

Past Lives

Here is a detail shot of it, since I'm sure many of the subtleties (very important in my work) come through in the full version.

I'm sure there are other people out there who can relate to this particular work. Hope you like it.

I've been thinking a lot lately about my future, such as it is, and trying to figure out an active course of action. I'm trying to figure out what it is I really want to accomplish, where I want to live, work, etc. and make sure that my girlfriend fits in there nicely as well.

I think my first step is to do a graphic novel. A year or so ago, my friend Beth and I were working on a book idea. She's a really talented doll maker, and so she was going to make these dolls, and I was going to shoot them and create my abstract/photo collage work with them and put it all in book format. Well, Beth unfortunately lost her day job, and started making dolls full time. What that meant for me was that she no longer had time to work on the character dolls for the book, so the project stalled.

Now I've been thinking a lot about it, and I still think the book is a really good idea. I've been trying to convince Beth to make the dolls, but if she really doesn't want to, I thought I might try making them myself. The whole point though was that it would be a collaborative effort, and we would both benefit from a published book. If that's what I have to do though, I will. I really just want to make something. Something I'm proud of. I design DVD menus for a job, and so I see my work at best buy and especially places like the Discovery Channel Store all the time. The problem is that I don't get a credit, and no one knows it's my work. Besides that, even if they did, the work is so compromised because my clients are visual morons, I wouldn't want credit for half of it anyway. So with the book, it would be something that was all mine, something I could have the final say on, and be proud of having finished. I know I might never get it published, but it would feel good to complete something that ambitious none-the-less.

So that's where I'm at. Things are pretty good at the moment, but they can be better, and I'm going to try and make that happen.

Thanks for bearing with the LONG entry. All you cats wish me luck, okay?

Yeah, I could never get with the man-hating women. I get that they were/are angry about feeling oppressed by men, but the hate part isn't so much productive, either.

I would not completely dismiss everything that this woman believed in, tho. I mean, I get what she is saying about if 100% of women stayed home, there'd be no women out there saving the world or improving it, and that those jobs would rest on the men. Then we'd all jump down her throat and say "why can't men stay home?" well, sure they can, but her book is not for those particular people, i guess.
