i was reading in the advocate today that there's a band in Northampton named Cars Can Be Blue. i thought this was pretty damn funny. i'm not sure if anyone would recognize this reference, but it's to a show called The State that was on mtv in the early 90's. by far the best sketch comedy show EVAR. better than snll in it's best year and better than kids in the hall. you can now see some of the members of this troop in Reno 911 and Stella, very funny shows themself but not the same. they're supposed to release it all on dvd like every other television show (do we really need mad about you on dvd or everybody loves raymond??) but for some reason they're having trouble getting the right licensing for the music. hopefully they'll get around to it soon. i had a video that they put out and it had that skit with the Cars Can Be Bue line in it. and i've watched that video much that i'll leave you with as much of that skit that i can remember so i can share the joy that was known as The State.

set up: a game show where instead of winning prizes or money you win orphans.

game show host: all right lets move into final round where the contestants can have a chance to double their orphans.

contestant 1: um i was under the impression that we would be winning prizes or money, not orphans. i have a very small apartment and can't afford them

gsh: oooooo sorry i guess you should have read the fine print. and now contestant 1 how many of you orphans are you willing to wager?

c1: ummmmm all of them.

gsh: ooooo you're looking to double you orphans. now don't forget that if you get the question wrong you lose all of them. now contestant 2 same question.

c2: ummmmm all of them.

gsh: ooooo this game got very exciting. and now for out final question. name a form of transportation.

c1: ummmmm blue?

gsh: oooooo sorry you've just lost all your orphans.

c1: (mouths the words i'm sorry to the 8 or so orphans standing on the other side of the stage)

gsh: contestant number 2. name a form of transportation.

c2: ummmmm wooden?

gsh: judges? judges? boats are made of wood? yes boats are made of wood. contestant number 2 you've just doubles your orphans.

c2: hey wait.......a car could be blue.

gsh: hold the phone....... a car could be blue. yes, cars can be blue!!!! contestant number 1 you've also just doubled your orphans. congradulations to both of our contestants today. (outro music over the two contestants being surrounded by orphans with helpless looks on their faces)

wow........that was long. and i'm a big dork for rememebering all that. i need to go out more.
