Okay. For those of you who are keeping score -- I use the term figuratively since I doubt anyone cares -- my conclusion of my previous post is that the majority of people in any group of people (school, work, hip-hoppers, goths, executives, environmentalists, etc.) are idiots following the trend because they're too afraid to think for themselves. Which is highly depressing. It's totally demoralizing to know that such a small fraction of people anywhere are decent, free-thinking and intelligent people with the capacity of making decisions for themselves instead of having them decided for them by public opinion.

I went to see Assemblage 23 Friday night along with a couple other bands. There was a band called Sex Without Souls. They were a guitar goth band. You know the type. Angry guitar, loud bass and irritating and reprehensible lyrics. I think the general stereotype of goths is that they go around criticizing everyone else for something-or-other. I suppose it's my fault for thinking the stereotype was fictitious, but I digress. This band represents all of that idiocy. One song, whose chorus consisted of killing another person, was dedicated to these hip-hoppers who chuckled at his mode of dress which, believe me, is meant to draw attention. Another song started with "If you pick on me I will fucking kill you." Right. So you want to be accepted while trying desperately to stand out. It's a lie, anyway. They want to be accepted by other people while at the same time criticizing everything and everyone without offering a solution or alternative. I suppose the joke is that one day they'll grow up and realize how foolish they are.

But the night was actually enjoyable despite this realization. A23 were awesome, though their performance was less professional than I would have liked. The other bands, Ariel and Headscan were very good. Ariel had a sitar, djoumbek and talking drum. Very cool. It's refreshing to see new talented artists from Toronto who are making mature, creative and original music. I've gotta keep my ear closer to the ground for these sorts of things and attend more often.

That being said, The Dears are coming to Lee's Palace mid-November. Expect me there.

Depending on what you need them for people in general can be quite moronic. So your bagging on the Goth kids now... they are a fun paradox aren't they? Here you have people so desperate to be individuals, so desperate to be different that they have created a sub grouping all for themselves... which totally defeats the purpose of being different individuals. The best part is they aren't even Goth the poor kids just use the word without even knowing what it refers to. Of course they just want to be accepted and it is totally natural for humans as a species to huddle together in like minded groups. Personally I view them with suspicion at the least and an annoyance at most (their constant whining gets old) as they are the weaker of our species and their fragile emotional states make them unstable and often unpredictable. In the grand scheme of things they are just a different brand of sheeple.
