i cant even imagine what its like riding in near-freezing water! There is about on average 7-10 perfect windy days during our summer season, fall it is a bit chilly but you dress for it, nice wetty is all.
what's it like riding fresh water compared to being in the ocean? i'm guessing you need a slightly bigger board to compensate for the difference in buoyancy. Fresh water is un-real, like nothing you have ever surfed. You really cherish your days on the waves, No salt on your suit, no sharks, smaller waves and no tunnels but decent. I ride a 7 foot 6, not for buoyancy but because the waves are smaller and its much nicer to be able to catch everything!
