for the second time in as many years, it looks like i'm going to bat as the supreme court reviews the constitutionality of the child online protection act (copa). in essense its the same law that was defeated last year (see: ashcroft v. free speech coalition) and the arguments haven't changed. yes, it's admirable to keep little johnny and sweet susie away from the virulent double-anal-cream-pies of the internet but not at the cost of free and educational speech. problems arise when sites that offer advice on safe sex or medical issues fall under the spectre of the law.
and the men and women in black are considering whether to hear an appeal of a case that addresses whether a video store that carries adult can be classified as an adult business and subsequently be subject to the "time, place and manner" laws that regulate adult businesses. i'm pretty confident about most of the fights i get into but this one could get messy.
on the same day that the nation's highest court decided to hear the government appeal previous decisions over online smut, the folks in black robes handed down a decision favoring the rights of states to allow doctors to prescribe marijuana for medicinal uses. i wonder if solicitor general olson realized that the elder president bush used eye drops that contained a synthesized version of marijuana while he was in office.
in other dope news, the university of buffalo school of medicine and biomedical studies released a report claiming that smoking marijuana impairs one's ability to reproduce. i think i may have found my cause celebre, the consumption of marijuana as a birth control measure. and lord knows, with three jewels in my crown and two more on the way, my baby mommas be clockin each paycheck. i mean, with all these mouths to feed, how's this playa gonna continue to bring the shame-free game?
