praise the lord and pass the biscuits, etta james laid down some fierce shit last nite!
the opening acts ernie andrews and keb'mo were outstanding. keb'mo went with the small arrangement this time around with just him and an occaisional guitar or banjo player to back him up. he didn't play my favorite song of his "give me what you got" (i like cookies, i like chocolate pie, i like big booties and great big thighs, oh yeah!) but he did wow the crowd when he played the guitar and harmonica at the same time.
i think etta must be in good health lately because she sounded real good. i mean real damn good. better than i've ever heard her before in fact, displaying some pretty sick range with her voice and hitting notes that i thought she had passed years ago. and of course, it was lovely having my special maryisstrange along for the ride. the definite highlight of the evening was when etta broke out with a medley/tribute to otis redding!
my soul has been warmed. best wishes of love and happiness to everybody!
