kandinsky's improvisation #35
i wonder... if maybe the weekend wasn't so kick ass, being back at work would be less of a drag. i pretty much hit all the bases: farmers market, a little cooking, dancing, vaporizing, paintball, drinking coffee and boddington's for breakfast (it is the cream of manchester, after all), 3 am barbeque in koreatown, live music, i even went on a date. hell hasn't frozen over but i hear that pigs have started to congregate around burbank airport. something about it being too hot in the valley and the desire to take wing and migrate to a more temperate area.
last nite's show at the bowl featured morcheeba and cesaria evora. morcheeba was great but cesaria was a revelation. morcheeba put down some of the silkiest, laid-back sounds and the lead singer, skye could not have been more adorable. cesaria evora hails from cabo verde, brazil and has an amazingly rich voice, like hot chocolate with perfectly melted marshmallows. a combination of bossa nova and portuguese folk, i couldn't understand a single word she said but some of her songs nearly brought tears to my eyes. when the conguero and violin picked up the beat and the guitarist and pianist started to pluck and bang out faster chords, the hollywood bowl became electric, people jumped to their feet and danced and clapped to the beat. two statuesque, curvy brazillians sitting in front of me shook their hips, stomped their feet and spun their way into my lust-filled dreams.
one last thing before i go... everybody should send takeshi21 a get-well e-mail. he threw out his back last week and is struggling to get back on his feet.
