as it turns out, the bodies belonged to chinese immigrants that worked in agriculture or as houseboys or any other menial and undesireable labor. the records of the bodies were lost long ago, mainly because nobody really cared who they were or where they stuck their dead.
the plot of land was an outside section of a cemetary where proper, oustanding citizenry (read: WHITE) were interred. the names of the proper folk list like a boulevard map of the city with people like van nuys, hollenbeck, and lankershim. the LA times reported on the chinese ghetto in the area, describing it as home to "natural born thie[ves] and scoundrel[s]."
