I have decided to forgo the normal Halloween events and attempt to be neighborly.

I bought candy for the kids.

I bought decorations to put outside to make my house seem festive. I have realised this is the first step in being old.

It's not having a 401k or a mortgage. It's not the ache in the joints or the first time you seriously thought about your daily fiber content.

It is the day you bought tacky decorations at Hobby Lobby in an attempt to make the outside of your house look welcoming.

See, while I always try to say hi when I see a neighbor outside I still dont feel like I am part of the neighborhood. So, candy for the neighbor kids it is. If they come by.

I will leave my porch light on and the giant ass nylon flag featuring a ghost, a bat and Frankenstein's monster flying by my door. It is the happiest little house in east Austin.

It is either that or a sign that say "come on over! Whitey's got candy!!!"
