Yesterday morning, I woke up early and drove my ass up to the north Austin suburb of Round Rock to attend a seminar put on by one of the adoption agencies that has an office here in town.
So, when we first get there, the first thing they show us is a video of some of the adoptions from China and some of the ones from Guatamala.
It was done in that slideshow with background music style. The backing music for China was that "Thank God for Kids" song which was bad and predictable enough.
But the song on the Guatamala video was, I shit you not, a song from the New Kids on the Block christmas album that came out when i was 12. I remember this song because I had the album. Big whoop, wanna fight about it!!??!
So, when I realise what this song is, the first thing I think is "oh my god. I have to post this on SG." and I scribble on my notepad "NKOTB. WTF????". This would be the only notes I wrote down all day.
So, the video is on and they're playing that song and I get the giggles. And I have to pretend I'm coughing so I can "excuse myself to get a glass of water". I go outside and bust a gut laughing.
I compose myself and go back in and the rest of the seminar was awesome. I talked to one of the 2 women putting on the seminar about my fears about my home study because I'm not your typical soccer mom and I don't have copys of oprah's magazine on my coffee table and so on and so forth. I had this image of some social worker thinking "She has tattoos? And wait. She's a Jew? Didn't her people kill our Lord? Oh no. She's not getting a kid"
But they said that as long as I didn't have a dead body in my living room, or my house wasnt a series of large gaping holes and exposed wires, I'd be fine.
So, after that, I came home, did some laundry, watched the UT game, made a purse and then got ready to go out for my birthday shindig.
(note: Thanks to all of you who wished me a happy birthday already, but you're still going to have to do it on Tuesday, which is my ACTUAL birthday.
)
I got some lovely gifts including some wine from Archi, some CDs from Volkov and a ukulele from my friend Jake (bless
), but the best gift was everyone who showed up and all the laughs we had.
I then called SarcasticMenace, left her a voice mail, then called nofiradio. SarcasticMenace called me back, so it became a 3 way phone call, which became a 4way after Walker got on the line, and later a 5 way when Walker called toothpickmoe.
I then got very very sleepy and my battery ran out and I didnt want to get up to plug it in.
I hope ya'll made fun of me behind my back
