Everything's back up. I'm never giving free hosting to a friend again. Her phpBB forum install was way out of date and a virus used it to compromise the system.

Dear obnoxious close family members,

I can't tell you this in person for obvious reasons, but it still has to be said somewhere: you didn't have the stroke and this is not about you.

Let me repeat that, this whole serious thing that we're involved in together is not about you. Stop making it about you, stop dominating conversations about how this effects...

I think Jon Stewart knows more about politics than Conan. and I think it's farcical enough to work.

Sounds like they put the pathetic in sympathetic.

My stepmother found my father slumped over and unconscious this morning when she came down for breakfast. She called for an ambulance right away and they rushed him back to the very same intensive care ward he left just last Thursday. My family says that he had a "serious" stroke and nobody will know how bad it was until he regains consciousness. I had my...

Reveling in my new found fanboyism, this week I have:

* Gone to a special midnight opening show of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on IMAX

* Played World of Warcraft for perhaps oh, 40 hours since I bought it last Sunday

* Waited desperately for Saturday to arrive so I can read the new Harry Potter book, which I have on pre-order with Amazon....

Holy shit, I have the same Big Fish poster, except the horizontal version.

You must really have disliked your other entry to cover it up in 20 minutes. Programmers can definitely be snarky but it's part of our way of trading information. For instance, I'm compelled to point out that XML isn't any harder to read than HTML and HTML is a subset of XML. (Note that I'm not at all commenting on whether you should use it.) XSLTs, however, put me on the verge of a seizure.

Why are programmers so snarky?

I don't usually ask programmers for help, because I'm pretty good with search engines and have enough experience that I'm pretty familiar with the kinds of problems that I work on solving. But once in a while, something new pops up that's so large and bizarre that I wonder if someone's written some pre-made code somewhere to take care of...

I keep getting spam about "WATER! THE NEW MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING!" It cracks me up.

* * *

My new thing for today is mini-updates. Often I don't have enough material built up for a real entry, so I'm just going to update this page throughout the day.

Yesterday was a rough day. I spent nearly fifteen hours in front of the computer...

Wow, so your dad's bill kind of puts the dentist charges in perspecive, eh? Hope things are still going well there.

Do you suppose maybe they were talking about multiple levels of water? I just blew your mind, didn't I?

I'm making progress on that crazy upgrade to our interviewing system. If you remember, I was having a lot of trouble getting started, and there it is, some modules are finished and have sexy little test cases hooked up to them.

The thing is though, I came back to Seattle vowing not to spend all day in front of the computer and wouldn't you know...

Today, I made up for missing Strongmad's surprisingly-naked BBQ by skinny dipping in a pool, having sex on a guest room bed at the pool owner's house, drinking a wine cooler for breakfast, and having dinner (tofu hot dogs and strawberries) out by the pond.

It was a fucking good day.

Fractured said that I sound surprisingly well put together considering that this all...

Does LankaKitten know about your little afternoon delight?

I love coffee. Love it. But due to my health issue, I can't have it. I see people who are addicted, spending a fortune for 800-calorie drinks at Starbucks, and I'm glad it's not an option for me. I have enough bad habits, you know?
fractured:
What's with your need to mention having sex so much? It's unbecoming for this kind of site. Just for that: your naked sister! She's naked - imagine that! She's doing nude jumping jacks in your living room!

I'm so happy I never had a sister.

I think my dad has always been scared of being poor.

My dad worked at an aerospace company in the 80s when defense spending was crazy and companies like his were fat and happy. He had a ton of experience in commercial art, so he was manager of their design department, did brochures, commercials, fun stuff.

When the recession hit, that aerospace company started a...

That's good perspective. As they say, nobody ever laid on their death bed wishing they'd worked more.

I'm so happy your father is hanging tough. As for indulging in fun, as my journals will attest, you are a couple of days too late. But we'll do what we can!

I know you're going through a lot and yet you sound amazingly well put together.
