Man, I just started reading some of the New Orleans coverage and the flooding -- jesus! It seemed like it was a disaster just waiting to happen. Why on earth did they build a city abutting and literally below the water level of the lake?
I mean, I feel bad for the people that grew up there, and nothing bad ever happened to their parents so they continued to live there below sea level -- and now their homes are destroyed and they're trudging through swamp neighborhoods in search of clean water and food, but seriously, what the fuck?
It's like building your farm at the bottom of the hoover dam or on the flanks of Mount St. Helens. What the hell are you thinking? Are you blind?

I seriously think they should just walk away from that city. Build a big fence around it and call it a superfund site. It's going to cost so much more to rebuild than to just relocate everyone, and even if they do rebuild, it seems obvious it will just happen again one day.
