Had a rough day.

The bookkeeping class was illuminating. There's a lot of tricks in finance that aren't about finance at all, but about figuring out when you've been an idiot.

Rock on.

One of the decisions I should have made years ago was to honestly look at what I had going for me, and market it. A good example is that I can program a 200-question survey in like four hours. It takes most research companies two weeks to do something like that. So right there is a pretty good angle.

Instead, all the marketing I do is all about how we have this fantastic custom software that's better than anything available commercially -- but, no it's not for sale, and no you can't examine it. I wouldn't hire a carpet cleaner that said he had a home-made vacuum better than anything available and spent all his time tuning the fucking thing rather than cleaning carpets..

Looking to get rid of my vacuum, today, I checked out almost twenty commercial and open-source web research packages and the only one that would be sort of an improvement over what I already have costs like $6,000. I can't imagine paying thousands of dollars for something that I'd only be sort of happy with. And the open-source community, which normally has some pretty good shit, came up null and void. They get a D+ for poor support of the market research industry.

Bad day.

*** Update: How come none of you told me that it's spelled "vacuum"? I don't want to sound like a moron, you guys and girls need to speak up about these things. ***
