Is there anything really mind-blowingly cool going on in the Internet, right now?

Do you think it's obnoxious when Americans are into other cultures' religions (e.g. buddhism, qabbalah, etc.)?

oh and in answer to your question, exactly what Strongmad said.

What is religion? If it's something to do with other cultures' food, I'm all for it.

I went to the Wine & Liquor in Kirkland last night to stock my home bar. $90 later, I've got a good selection of booze and mixers at home. It's not anywhere close to complete, but I've certainly got the basics plus a couple of dessert liquors like Irish Cream and 90 proof Kahlua.

* Discovered that I make the best Long Island Iced Teas...

I think I'm going to start hanging out at your place a lot more. We can't have you getting restless and resorting to making drinks for the cats to keep your skills sharp.

I haven't seen Alias at all. I know I kept trying to avoid Lost because it just didn't seem that engaging. Sometimes, only sometimes, I like being wrong.

I'm now a licensed bartender!

* * *

Completely unrelated, but about a year ago, I discovered that my business checking acccount had $10,000 more than it should have. Pleased and amazed, I worked out that Washington Mutual had credited the same deposit twice.

I called around, asking people I could trust for advice on what my options were -- could I just close out...

Orangutang O's?

Congrats on becoming a bartender though. That's great.

Yeah, had it been me I'd have waited a few months myself before I closed out my account. By then you would have been able to proclaim plausible deniability. biggrin

Being grown adults with responsibilities and apartments and all that, you're likely familiar with the friend in trouble situation, right? Where something horrible happens to them, just blood-curdling shit, like an abusive boyfriend or a violent roommate or something. They're practically weeping and you care for them, so you invite them to stay with you for a few weeks so they can get their shit...

I can get behind that, yeah. And what's more, you posit an interesting theory. Food for thought, my favorite dinner. biggrin

Fine, I'll sleep in my car. Dick.

When I work too much*, my brain gets all adolescent on me and suddenly I need video games. Like right now, I'm thinking about buying a Playstation 2 just so I can play Burnout 3 and Katamari Damacy.

No, I've never played these games before. No, I've never seen screenshots or online trailers -- but I've heard good things about them!

I'm weird and retarded....

Yuck. The insurance company came out to look at our Mustang. They're declaring it totaled. The agent thought it would be too expensive to fix.

We'll find out what their offer is in 48 hours.

I could say something about cars having unique personalities that can't be replaced by a check, or that old people should have to retake driving tests periodically to retain their...

oh wow. i am so sorry you guys went through that. i saw the mrs's journal too. like you guys don't have enough crap in your normal lives, with a sick baby and all.

as for anniversary presents/omen/all that...don't even give it a second thought. you have each other. thank goodness you both weren't tremendously hurt. and the best anniversary gift is to wake up next to her in the morning, isn't it?

true love doesn't need gifts. hell, santa can't even bring that to you in a lifetime movie.

I'm just laughing that Stuzzy had a Fiero.

With the bugged disappearance of my favorite suicidegirls (lame!), it occurs to me that most of the girls I had stamped were there solely for having one or two really hot pictures buried somewhere in their sets.

The thing is, I'd forget about those one or two pictures and never look at their sets again.

Here's to pointing at hot photos and hollering.
trevallion:
I had girls up there that I had either met in person or have been friends with on the site forever. I don't feel like putting new ones up.

I had to tell a client, last night, that 18,000 questions in a questionnaire isn't reasonable.

I felt he wouldn't understand the scope of the problem unless I put it in real-world terms, so I pointed out that it would take two days of computer time to process the results and when printed would be a tower of paper five feet tall. If one were...

It's a garam masala type of curry.

I find your client to be incomprehensible. 18000 questions? Why?
strongmad:
That's, um, a large commitment on the part of the respondents.

Bartending class was awesome.

Did you know that the world's worst bartenders make $17/hour after tips? After a couple months, you should be making $47/hour if you're friendly at all toward the customers.

"But I'm an overworked computer programmer who has his own business and does okay. What does bartending have to offer me?"

"You can make $300 a night."

"Sold!"

In the past four days, I've read and made notes on 450 pages of programming documentation. It's still not enough, have 250 pages to go.

The goal when I'm done is to use what I've learned to put a web survey package together and release it free to the world. Which would sort of make me a recognized expert on the topic and I might...
