LAS VEGAS - GET NAKED, BE IN A BOOK AND DOCUMENTARY
Ok, so it really doesn't seem like that much of a stretch, huh? Las Vegas... nudity... Well you'd be surprised. A lot of promises of fame and fortune are thrown around this city, and that seems to have built very thick barriers in the people here. So it makes sense, right? If you lived in a place where that was the norm you'd probably have a hard time accepting what a stranger tells you, let alone that you should strip off all your clothes for the sake of art.
Well hey, sometimes that is all its about. And that is Naked Las Vegas. It's the 4th in the "Naked" series by photographer Greg Friedler (previously New York, LA, and London).

The premise is honest and direct; to photograph the people behind the people behind the city. In other words, its a photographic cross-section of the population of Las Vegas with and without their clothes, an attempt to show them in both a familiar perspective and another one that is less familiar but more truthful (get it? the people behind the people...).
Greg uses a standard format in black & white film pulling from a 3-minute 4-frame photo shoot of each subject, each of whom appropriately comes from all walks and is represented by his/her age and title reflective of their role in life.
Greg is currently in Las Vegas (I know this because I'm still digesting the sushi feast we had tonight - Sushi Fever on Sahara, like way awesome by the way). He's setting up a small studio in the Dust Art Gallery on South Main Street to be open for walk-ins starting this Friday from 5-11pm. Yes, it's First Friday again! Time to celebrate the arts! And possibly be part of the documentary being filmed on Greg's endeavor. He will continue to photograph for this book through the end of the month (see the aforementioned websites for more info).
So come be a model, and by model I mean be a human being. Dust is located at 1221 S. Main Street; there will be signs and stuff to lead the way, and I hope to see you around this weekend!
