These statistics taken from the FBI's 2011 compilation of sexual assaults sickens and disgusts me and also makes me so sad.
Every 1 minute and 45 seconds someone in the US is sexually assaulted.
This is an estimation given that over 60% of all sexual assaults are NEVER reported. Think about this, that means that in 24 hours 720 people are sexually assaulted. These victims who are brave enough to report are then put on trial, rather than the person who assaulted them.
15 of 16 rapists will NEVER spend a day in jail.
80% of all attackers are known to their victims. Stranger rape only occurs 20% of the time.
91% of all victims are reported to be female 9% are male.
RAPE is STILL only defined as "unwanted penetration of the vagina" any other orifice is apparently NOT rape. There is no such thing as oral rape or anal rape according to the definition.
MEN are still generally classified as "unable to be raped" what happens to a man whether it be unwanted forcible penetration of the anus or mouth is only classified as "sexual assault."
