Just a contemplative thought. I've been going to the SG Science Fiction group lately to read their posts. But everytime, I always come back to their intro statement, which is a quote from Ursula K. Le Guin

"The purpose of a thought-experiment...is not to predict the futureindeed Schrdinger's most famous thought-experiment goes to show that the "future," on the quantum level, cannot be predictedbut to describe reality, the present world. Science fiction is not predictive; it is descriptive...The future, in fiction, is a metaphor." Ursula K. Le Guin

I've been wondering about that lately. I do belive it is descrpitive of our humanity's state of mind and our state of being as we are today. But to say it's not predictive? I'm not so sure. It seems like many things that are commonplace today, such as space travel, flying, cloning (well, not as much but it is part of our reality), traveling at the speed of sound, etc..... was once though of as fantasy, foolishness, even childish dreams or herisy. I even think back to the great Leonardo da Vinci, who ultimately invented some of the vehicles we use today commercially and for the military. That was a dude who was WAY ahead of his time!! Now we're looking out into space to see if there really is life out there, which logically, I don't see why there wouldn't be. The bigger we find out space is and the mroe we find out is out there, I'd say to believe, at least without proof, that this is the only planet with intelligent life, yes to some extent even us humans too (though it seems like we don't make good use of it very often), is absolutely ludicrous!!! Don't wanna get off the subject too much. Point I'm making is, I believe all science fiction eventually becomes science fact. Though I doubt if I'll still be around, I'm thinking within the next 200 years TOPS, another human anomoly, like Leonardo or Newton, WILL figure out how to not only achieve light speed but him, her or maybe another will figure out how to travel it safely. I'm DEAD SERIOUS on this. I'm about to read this book again called "Art & Physics: Parellels in Space, Time and Light" a book which talks about #1) how art and science are more related to each other than different and #2) how artists have even inadvertently foretold or even hinted at the scientific discoveries that have shaped our world today. I'm hoping to pick up more this time around than I did the first time. If anyone reads this blog, I welcome your thoughts, whether you agree, disagree, or just have a random thought about any of this. surreal surreal
