Yoga today! Woot tongue

I gotta admit how grossly underestimated that meditation device sounded from a distance, prior to last week. Movies and television shows depict yoga as this harshly quiet session of prolonged sitting poses and moderate-to-deep belly breathing, with a little visualization thrown in, and glazed over with some euphoric release of relaxation. But man oh man, that's not how I perceived it this past Tuesday! Granted this was my very first class in...ever, so poses and overall fluidity of the class was expected to be a tad rocky.

However, I did not expect your mind to be running through an obstacle course of directions, such as evenly distributing weight amongst your planted feet/hands, rounding your shoulders back for maximum chest exposure (to breathe better), and finding your own breathing rhythm that may or may not correlate with the instructor's pattern. Trust me, it's all easier said than done when your mind isn't multitasking on objectives. I would find my breathing rhythm, and completely forget to correctly shift my weight; or I would focus on finding squared footing and not pay attention to my positioning with the stretches, thus causing myself to adjust and readjust (aaaand readjust) to fully benefit from the stretches. To this waking second, I still feel the tight strain in my triceps and abdominal wall. But they are good burns!!

Needless to say, I am all too excited about returning tonight, now that I've had time for my body to rest up and become acquainted with the class intensity.

P.S. that Hot Yoga is just insane! 3-legged dog needs to be taken out to pasture and put down tongue

I could never get into Yoga. I love breathing exercises and meditating, but Yoga never helped me center myself the way I wanted it to. I jog and paint for that. biggrin

I've managed to avoid being audited as well.smile I did yoga for a brief time and all it did was make me feel like a wimp. I'm looking at all these girls holding these poses and I'm shaking all over from exhaustion. Of course I'm 6 feet 200 pounds so I don't know if that makes it harder, but yoga really is a great workout especially for all those muscles that don't get worked in traditional workouts.
