Summer mmmmm list:
Massive Attack late at night, wind through leaves, watermelon and green grapes, outdoor music festivals, sun on skin, mojitos, being by large bodies of water, electric storms at night, sliding back and forth on each other's sweaty bodies....
morgan:
I don't think the whole "boys" thing has overtones, really, at least for most women I know who use it. It's just a cute way to say it, without saying "boyfriend" and without using something that sounds kind of overdone like "significant other". And "my man" sounds too much like a country-western song.
morgan:
We should come up with an entirely new word for significant others. Like..."bez". Or something.

A favorite:
"Just as my fingers on these keys
Make music, so the selfsame sounds
On my spirit make a music, too.

Music is feeling, then, not sound;
And thus it is that what I feel,
Here in this room, desiring you,

Thinking of your blue-shadowed silk,
Is music."
kiva:

Quote of the week:
"Today there is a wide measure of agreement, which on the physical side of science approaches almost to unanimity, that the stream of knowledge is heading towards a non-mechanical reality; the universe begins to look more like a great thought than a great machine."
Sir James Jeans
hussein:
you said it in erin's journal.

i love that description of hollywood: "high school with money." i you can replace "money" with other nouns and get a description of pretty much every life situation you'll encounter.
hussein:
i was falling asleep toward the very end (it was late), so i'm saving it for today. caetano veloso is the guy in "talk to her," right. if so, i completely agree: one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard also--i was hypnotized by that song.

haven't seen the goldsworthy film yet, but i will, for sure.

So there was this country whose leaders got into power by rigging their election, created a phony "enemy" to justify expanding their military, co-opted most of the press, ignored international law, alienated their allies, created wars for their own enrichment, created laws to enrich those who support them, believed any means justified their ends, including the imprisonment or murder of unarmed civiilians of any age,...

when you were my age...
you believed the history you were taught;
you were more concerned with yourself than anyone else, no matter what you said;
you saw only open road ahead of you;
you were obsessed by theories;
you were ignorant of realities;
you took games seriously;
you thought looking different meant you were different;
you had a lot to learn.
