i just returned from horse birth, HORSE BIRTH!!!
my friend leann called me at 2:30 last nite. "Righteous Indignation" was in labor. leann has played midwife to horses for the last 14 years so she wasn't the slightest bit stirred. "wanna come watch?" she asked. i hopped my ass out of bed and raced out to the stables. my god nature is amazing!
i've seen babies born on the farm numerous times but not for over 20 years. there is a certain violence to the birth of farm animals, the sheer size of the baby makes my own head swim. having given birth to my own human beasts i can wholly sympathize with the animal. the snorting and whinnies of horse labor, the large brown eyes flashing fear. my adrenalin was pumping like crazy. for some reason i felt scared. i knew leann had it all under control, but the surreal moment wreaked havoc on my emotions.
i was right on the edge of a downpour of tears. the last few days collecting in a large lump in my throat. swallowing to keep the flood at bay i did exactly what i was told to do, assisting my friend in her amazing task. at 6:43 am the colt was born.
it was at this point i began to sob.
isn't that amazing??
then, we all ate a huge breakfast, (thanks leann, you are incredible) drank a bottle of champagne and i made the drive home. what a fucking amazing nite!!
did i happen to mention i love life?? well goddammit, i DO!! i wouldn't live it any other way. i am so lucky to have the adventures that i do. i will never stop seeking them.
HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE
p.s. my baby made it all the way, he's safe and sound in arizona. countdown to return begins...16...
