last weekend i had a blast. but first my stupid fucking DVD-player didn't work! after a trip down to the electronics store to get a new one, i watched two flicks on friday night--'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' and 'chronicles of riddick'. i know life aquatic got mixed reviews but for those of you who liked the 'royal tennenbaums', you might like this one. we see the return of bill murray, owen wilson, anjelica huston from tennenbaums and the addition of some other notables like willem defoe (doing comedy-weird, huh?), Cate Blanchet, and Jeff Goldblum. The story is kinda about a guy hitting middle age (murray) and his relationship with his newfound son (wilson). although it's slow, it has its moments. i watched this film twice on my flight from LA to NZ and both times it fucked up 3/4 of the way through! so i had to see how it ends--i was not disappointed. I give this film a 7 out of 10 on the DH-scale. Chronicles of Riddick is the sequal to the sleeper sci-fi horror flick 'Pitch Black'. In chronicles we see the return of the chocolate-voiced, super-sexy, alpha-male vin diesel (riddick), taking on the evil half-undead ('how the hell can you be half-undead?' you ask--see the film) 'necro-mongers' (for those geeks into etymology, this is a made up word from 'necro', Greek (nekros,) meaning 'dead body'; and 'monger', Latin meaning 'trader, dealer'--so it means 'dealers in dead bodies'?... whateva). The action and fighting are awesome, if a bit over-the-top unrealistics. the pace is good and the story line does hold your interest (there is a reunion with the 'boy' named jack from the first film). for fans of pitch black or vin, it's a must see; for others you might want to check out pitch black first. i give it 7.5....
but that was just friday. saturday i rode-tripped it across the north island with a friend. i saw snow-covered volcanos, forests, desert, lakes, bush, waterfalls, and the ocean. and friday i was in a t-shirt, even though it is the middle of 'winter' here! in one word 'it-was-fuckin-awesome!' (i know, it's not really one word
). so i am feeling glad i moved to these little island in the south pacific. and i got an email today that my stuff from london will be arriving sometime next week! my CD's and books (my babies) will be home
well, i think i am going to soak myself in a hot bath (still recovering from the TV lift and 10 hours on the road). love and peace, you freaky people!
