Hello everyone in SG world. I hope everyones weekend was good.
This weekend was the next to the last of the Four Winds Renisance Faire and was a good one all in all.
The big event of the weekend for us gypsys was a little something that we call Barter Town (yes this name was taken from the Mad Max movie). In Barter Town, anything that you have aquired throughout the year, items you have traded last year or anything you no longer have use for is placed in front of you and goes up for trading. Basicaly a time to get rid of shit you dont want anymore.
Night before we take our trip into Barter Town, we have a small competition of skill. This consists only of tossing a knife into the floor at a small target that is either a Guinness bottle cap, coin or in this case a paper match. I was not the victor in this game because I suck at such things. To the winner, the rights of first trade are made.
Barter Town begins!
The trading wares are viewed and shopped.
Previous debts are taken care of then the winner of the game begins trading. After he reaches and agreement with someone for something to trade and everytime after a trade is made, shaking of hands ends that trade.
Of course I never think that I have anything worth trading, but you would be suprised at what people will trade.
A fist full of horse teeth got me a green bottle with a very small amount of home made honey liquer ( I really just wanted the bottle but whatever is in it is always a bonus).
Things are traded and re-traded. Many things are traded for one large item. Five knives for one scimitar, bells and leather for drum, so forth and so on.
This year I got rid of some things that I didn't want anymore and some things that I really didn't want to part with. These are not the important things. What is important are the things that I aquired this year:
1. the bottle mentioned before
2. large sheet of top grain black leather
3. aluminum d'hole' (large doumbek used for base beets)
4. gerber boot knife
5. Pakistani knife with large curved blade and serated back
6. zebra mask from Africa

I also aquired another bottle half full of mead. Only half full because we drank most of it that night.
Anyway, Barter Town was a success and a good time was had by all who attended.
I will be sad when faire is over but have many other things to look forward to in the coming year.

Much Love
