So, another Christmas has come and gone. Another Christmas in a warzone. You'd think it would get easier the more you do something, but this is one of those things that never seems to change. A few years back, when I missed my first holiday season at home, the effort wasn't really all there in making it seem like home over here. I kinda miss that. The more they try to make it feel like home, the more we miss HOME. No matter how many decorations they put up, or how many empty cardboard boxes they wrap up and put under the tree in the dfac, or how many officers they can get to serve chow in line, it will never be like home. It CAN never be like home. What they don't realize is, what makes home HOME is your family and friends. While most of us deploy with a greater portion of our friends, very few deploy with any family members. I say, if you want us to have a Merry Christmas, send the fucking politicians over here to take our place so we can go home and spend time with our families.
Now, don't get me wrong here. I'm not one to bitch about my service to my country. No matter how many times she calls me, I'll go. Wherever, whenever, until I'm not capable of doing it anymore. I just wish they'd treat this like what it is. War. Plain and simple. The most dreaded three letter word in the world. War. I'm not here to go caroling. I'm not here to attend salsa dancing night at the mwr. I'm not here to eat BK. I'm here to eliminate the forces that wish to see our way of life extinguished. So lets get to it.

I am glad your in the service to our country! I also understand your feeling about your deployment but I know if you just have MREs, T-rats, and a mess hall... you wouldn't mind some BK once in a while.

Stay safe!

I kinda lucked out this time. We don't have shit where I am now, and I like it that way. No distractions. Thanks for your service as well!
