Have you ever discovered a rumor circulating about yourself at work? I recently have, it wasn't bad, it was rather random, and entertaining. I'll get to that.

First, wanted to give an update on the recent SGdetroit member gathering for the Detroit Derby Girls I attempted to pull together on the 4th. Didn't get the member turn out that I was hoping, but with the people from work I ended up running into at the Derby and after party we ended up with a fairly decent sized group. I'd say we all had an excellent time. I will definitely make a return visit back to see the Detroit Derby Girls, and probably the Mid-Michigan Derby Girls (even closer to me). The after-party was a blast, and we got to meet a number of the girls, and closed the place down. We were embarrassing my one friend all night, and she decided to play the awkward game with me while we were talking to one of the derby girls, and caught me off guard. She won that round. biggrin

So the work rumor:

Generally members don't seem to use their real names, but it's pertinent to the story, and not very many people will read this anyways. My name is Robert, which I use at work only for presentations or legal documents, otherwise I introduce myself as Bob, my voice mail says Bob, my e-mails are signed as Bob, etc. My friends at work also call me by my nickname, Rufus. So I heard through some people I've recently started working with, that I guy they know, whom I know but don't really work with, told them that "Robert HATES to be called Bob, call him Robert". Not "He prefers to be called Robert", but more like "He will stab you through the neck with a pen, if you call him Bob". So I'm not sure where he got this, but it is quite humorous to me. Even when I was working with the French, while I'd say "Je m'appelle Robert," just because it was more fun to say in French with an accent, all the French would even call be Bob (and it was kind of sexy when the Female French coworkers would say it with an accent wink ). So this is a big joke now between me and my pals, and we are working hard to try to perpetuate the rumor.

Three days until the 3rd Annual Guys Camping Trip with the gang from work - Thursday-Sunday. This year we will be at a campground near Standish, MI and we will do some canoeing on the Rifle River on Saturday. It should be an awesome weekend, as it always is (bonfire, drunken antics, acoustic guitar, camaraderie, grilling meat, speaking in silly accents). This year I might leave late afternoon Saturday to head back to Detroit to catch The Creepshow concert. I missed them when they were here in November because I was in the Upper Peninsula. I'm torn, because don't want to be a prick and ditch the guys a night early. We'll see.
