hello; it's been a while. how are you?

I don't know if I've mentioned my crazy coworker (CC)before, but if not, I suppose this will be a good introduction: someone came into my office, which I share with CC, and mentioned the tsunami; CC said "well, maybe some good can come of it". and, like my crazy lunatic freak shitbeast coworker, it seems that there are always some folks who can always seem to manage to find a silver lining.

and virginia: dear lord, people. what is going on down there? not only is there reportedly a VA bill up which considers "traditional marriage" displays on license tags (the potential for hilarity is staggering), but our good buddy john cosgrove has introduced a bill which "requires any woman who experiences 'fetal death' without a doctor's assistance to report this to the local law-enforcement agency within twelve hours". for those of you with even the most tenuous grasp of the female reproductive system asking that one glaring question: yes, virginia wants you to report losses "regardless of gestational age". um, what? the comments after the latter news entry voice obvious concerns, as well as suggestions including sharing various used feminine products with our esteemed delegate.

you've probably seen this stuff, but I've been ill and away from my computer. well wishes and gifts of fine imported chocolates welcome.

re: problematic doctor/patient relationships. there was just this great piece in the chicago tribune about how more *women* are becoming doctors. and women doctors - in general - have better relationships with their patients; there is more communication and empathy. so, there are questions about how diagnosis might change in the future - maybe becoming mor accurate. i just thought it was interesting, in light of the discussion of people being afraid to talk to their practicioners as things are now.
