Sinclair Broadcast Group, owner of the largest chain of television stations in the nation, plans to air a documentary that accuses Sen. John Kerry of betraying American prisoners during the Vietnam War, a newspaper reported Monday.

Sinclair has ordered all 62 of its stations to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" without commercials in prime-time next week, the Washington Post reported, just two weeks before the Nov. 2 election.

Sinclair's television group, which includes affiliates of all the major networks, reaches nearly a quarter of all U.S. television households, according to the company's Web site. A dozen of Sinclair's stations are in the critical swing states of Ohio, Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin.

additionally, there's been a lot of talk about indymedia.org, a uk based site that, as the name suggest, offers independent media reports. apparently two servers were seized and shut down with no explanation, though the court order for the seizure cited the "Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty", wherein countries assist one another with crimes "such as international terrorism, kidnapping and money laundering". though some reports claim that the FBI is responsible, others say they deny any involvement, so I'm unsure who is supposed to be held accountable, though everyone seems to agree that it originated from US officials.

wow. though I really am disgusted at the fact that we are forced to vote based on who we despise the least, at this point, bush's competition could be satan himself, all decked out in red lame and sequins, and I'd still vote for him.

additionally, I must make what I realize is a very reactionary response (particularly with the very real need to question any and all media reports 100% of the time, especially now - but boy am I PISSED) and venture to say that a vote for bush is a direct endorsement of what has rapidly become undeniably apparent is a fascist system. if it's not obvious to you that the media is being controlled and you've been being fed propaganda for quite some time now (and your parents, and your grandparents, etc), then you're either not paying attention or you're extremely fucking stupid. I'm in no way suggesting that democrats are above or beyond such methods, only that bush's reign of terror has been particularly insidious and entirely blatant. what a jerk!

iscout:
The indymedia story is extra scary. And then we criticize the Russians for shutting down newspapers and the Chinese for shutting down internet cafes. Are we any better?

And the other thing about confiscating servers is not "only" that they try to silence a news source but also that they confiscate logs and user profiles which intimidates people from participating in such alternative websites and coming out and organizing.

See ya all in Guantanamo.
