Dawn.

I have been thinking a lot, lately, about how I have to leave San Francisco. I am becoming really bored studying here. Don't get me wrong, this will always be my true hometown and I think no matter what happens in my life, I'll end up returning here. I don't believe there's any other city in the US that is as diverse and artistic, and each new district of the city is like an entirely different city in itself.

Going to Houston, though, did a lot to inspire me. It had been a really long time since i'd seen buildings with different types of architecture than the ones in San Francisco or had spoken with people that had different senses of style/speak differently than we do.

I mean, can you imagine meeting lesbians that didn't look, think, or act anything like the ones i've been living with since I came out? I didn't even know lesbians like that existed! I really thought they were like SF lesbians everywhere!

I want to go to London, or Seattle, or New York, or...well anywhere really. Just for a little while. Someplace entirely different, but still a big city. I would never be able to live in a small town, I did it for a long time in my life and small towns don't suit me at all.

If I were able to, I would escape somewhere this summer, just to get out of this rut. But as it is, I am stuck with my regular hostessing job in SF. skull

Have you seen Beauty and the Beast, where Belle twirls throughout the green pastures singing, "I want much more than this provincial life?" I am totally hitching up my skirt and twirling through the pastures as we speak.

I want to see what else is out there.

As a brit i'd have to recommend London but I think you're right, change is good. I think you need to go somewhere completely different just to remind you of the good things you have. You say SF will always be your hometown and i feel the same about where I live, but I understand that at times you do feel bogged down and the city seems almost oppressive.

What worked for me was a weekend in the country. How cliche I know, and I said as much to my friend before we left but it work. The fresh air cleansed me and the lack of distraction was great for getting my head together. after four days I was ready to go back, one of the benefits of the country is that it's so bloody boring you don't really want to stay there - it's pretty though.

Anyway, it worked for me, hope you sort out what works for you.

All the best,
T
