Didn't do much yesterday. Just drowned myself in homework so much that I fell asleep at an early hour and now i'm up and ALERT at 6am. Wow, this may never happen again.

Went downtown yesterday and FAO Schwartz is closing. I can't believe it! I guess that just shows that in the same way myth began to wane from the world after WWI, so too is childlike wonder waning before our war with Iraq. Hopefully we won't still go.

My best friend called me up yesterday, we hadn't talked in like a month.

"Hello?" -Me
"Um, yeah, so i'm getting married on monday." -Her
"WHAT THE???" -Me
"In Tahoe." -Her
"Damn you woman, I can't get to Tahoe on my own by monday! And if I do, you guys'll have the wedding, then be like 'Ok, it's our honeymoon, time to fuck' and i'll have to go all the way back home alone!" -Me
"HAHAHA, you know me too well, old friend." -Tanya

So Tanya is getting married to a boyfriend that's in the army. I'm a little peeved though. The only reason they're getting married is because he gets more money from the government if he's married. And they decided that since he's going overseas, they'll just act like they're engaged, not married, and are free to see other people. And Tanya had sex the other night with a guy that wasn't her husband to be!

I think I might be the last person in the world that takes marriage seriously. Maybe because it isn't legal for me. If I were to marry a girl I would want it to be a girl that I would at least try to spend the rest of my life with. I hate when people are like, "Oh well, if it doesn't work out i'll just get a divorce" like marriage is a temporary tattoo. And i've spoken with a lot of girls that say it's "an institution invented by a patriarchy" and blah blah blah and are convinced marriage is somehow anti-feminist. What's wrong with commitment?

I see marriage as an important sociological ritual, and rituals are good because they tie us back to myths, which help us organize and make sense of our lives. There's something very tribal about it. It's just like taking communion. You're drinking wine that is symbolic of holy blood, it transforms your mind and then your spirit.

Anyway, I wanna meet Grrlhavoc! Havoc, let's elope! You can come to my window and play a kazoo and then i'll scale down the side of my building in ninja ropes to meet you.

Hey Bionicfemme,

It would be a legal marriage in Vermont!

Here is my take on things. Marriage is good!
When you have sex with someone, you share a part of your soul with them. If it is just casual sex, then a part of you is ripped off when they leave. A long term relationship, however, give your soul and their soul time to grow together. If you do part after a couple of years, they rip part away but enough stays to grow back, kinda like a starfish that is ripped in half and can grow into two starfishes. Casual sex just rips more and more away.

Marriage should be until death do you part. My wife and I will have been married for 9 years in April. Its been rocky a couple of times but we have stuck it out.

If you have two souls growing together and nurturing each other, it is an amazing thing! I really do believe that you will find the girl of your dreams.
