I was reading an old piece I wrote long ago...and in it I talk a lot about how cool it was that my first girlfriend was half white and half Filipino like me, and how i'd never met another girl like that, what an interesting experience that was. One paragraph in particular strikes me:

"We laid there together in the dark, while I caressed her face and ran my fingers through her hair. I thought we were the most beautiful creatures on earth. So this is what happens when the daughters of ivory conquerors and bronzed warriors meet. They kiss. They come close to merging all of the divided parts of themselves. They have beautiful eyes borne of a white man and an Asian woman. In that moment, we were not genetic mutants. We were beautiful, mythological women embracing each other. We were goddesses that almost made love."
