I saw transformers Wednesday, I actually watched it two shows back to back. It's either that fricken good or I'm that fricken desperate for an escape from my life.

I'd prefer the former.

I went into the theatre with high hopes and low expectations. The fact that Michael bay directed it really put those expectations on the low end. I'm glad I was surprised.

Overall I really liked the writing, the dialogue was great and I enjoyed the characters. Especially optimus prime, they definitely got the voice right.

There is a scene that is shot just a mile from my apartment, Casa de Cadillac in Sherman oaks, which was cool.

A few things I didn't like though:
one of the reasons why I'm not a big Michael bay fan is the cinematography. There are times in this movie where I have no idea what is going on in a scene because the goddamn camera is jumping around so much that I cant see a fucking thing. Seriously I wanted to scream "hold the fucking camera still" about 5 times. It's like watching some bad home videos from before they invented image stabilization...

ILM did the CGI, and almost every scene involves CGI in some way. So really they directed it, which saved it from total disaster in my opinion.

One thing that always bugs me in movies that involve US military is the obvious inaccuracies and blatant disregard for realism. I just hate to see a guy wearing woodland camo in the middle of the desert. Or an air force base sending jets to escort a helicopter to another location. Or a guy wearing a uniform that says US air force but having a first class petty officer collar device. I hate that shit. Its not like it's hard to get the shit right, these movies have official military advisors that should be consulted before stupid shit like that gets put onto a screen.

There was some major product placement in this film. I think general motors paid for at least half of this movie.

At first I wasn't happy about them changing the vehicles the autobots transform into. But in the end it really didn't matter because for the most part you don't see the vehicles that much. Except for the Camaro, the whole film looked like one big Camaro commercial.

In the end though it was all just baby food, there was no emotion and very little at stake. This movie didn't inspire any emotional response from me at all. It was just a lot of interesting computer animation and fight scenes. Otherwise it probably wouldn't make as much money

Go see it, it's worth ten bucks. Get there early otherwise you might have to stand in line to get in. Wear a batman t-shirt and think of me

PS this is copied from my myspace blog. that one has lots of nifty links embedded in the text and this one does not. add me as a friend there and you can read this in all of its hyperlinkity glory!
