"Teenage angst has paid off well
Now I'm bored and old.
Self appointed judges judge
More than they have sold."

It been suggested that the subconscious mind is unable to register negatives. So, if one says something like "I can't do that!" Or "I don't like you!", the abstract registration and recognition system of the subconscious that informs future conscious behavior reads these statements as "I do that!" or
"I like you!".

This must be why statements such as these, that contain negatives, cause us so much personal stress and pain. It's not that these are "bad" thoughts, or we're bad people for thinking these things. It's just that it's a mixed signal that sets up a weird feedback system, as it were, that bounces the emotions around and squeals and whines. The noise can kill ya!

The conscious mind might indeed truly feel these things, no reason why it shouldn't. Maybe there are sound reasons. Hell, If you don't "do" something or don't like someone, right on! Your choice in free will.

But I find myself working at removing said negatives from my conscious speech and thought. Not to be a goodie-goody, but to save myself thousands of internal shit storms daily. ("Not" to be a goodie-goody! See? I just did it! And check out that opening sentence of mine. "Un"able. This is a task, for sure.)

For example: "I don't do that!" becomes "I choose to do other things."

It's pretty simple. And it makes things smoother.

I'm done with angst.
