To be Christian is your choice,

And to Jesus you can pray.

There's no call to raise your voice,

Just because you can have your way.

Your religion isn't mine, and the bible's not my book,

But I read the Constitution and you might just take a look.

For that document protects us from the people who would say

that religious law is better and then take our rights away.

Our Nation's founding fathers wanted all our people free,

so they framed the Constitution to protect both you and me.

Go to church and read your bible if it helps you through your days,

But forget about commanding that I follow the same ways.

You can keep your bible handy

right up on that dusty shelf.

While I think that's fine and dandy,

You can keep it to yourself.

Amen! I'm so tired of hearing that the US was founded on God's principles and is a Christian country.  I seem to remember that the US was trying to set up a country with different politics than the  British who the US recently won their freedom from in the Revolutionary War. The US was set up by many meetings and congresses and, finally the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Note there were no outwardly Christians involved in all of this and Jesus isn't mentioned in either the Declaration of Independence or the US Constitution. Now, in current days, we have the Tea Party and all the evangelical voters and candidates trying to get their votes so the evangelicals can finally rewrite the Constitution and really make this a Christian country and make non-Christians outcasts. I could rant on this for hours but I've pretty well got us up to the 2016 elections.

Thank you, @mrsoul! I'm also tired of people being blinded by their religion to decide things for me. i really wish that the "separation of church and state" clause was an actual Amendment. For the life of me, I can't figure out why it isn't. It is referenced so much and misrepresented on so many levels. Bottom line is, religion is a personal choice, one can be proud of it but one shouldn't force another to believing it to be the only way...
