Ahhhh so the roommate bailed last minute. I think I have a new one who is supposed to move in on Monday, but we'll see...
I have been around here lately, checking blogs and what not but have been kind of in the shadows, not because there is anything wrong, I've just been so incredibly busy I don't even know where to begin.
Tomorrow, one of my closest friends is flying into town to visit for the weekend, well she is also taking a sexcation and staying with a mutual friend of ours, but tomorrow i get her all to myself
today i bought the salmon, broccoli to roast, and am making grilled salmon with a teriyaki glaze, roasted broccoli with lemon and i bought some pinot grigio to go with. So my night will be filled with yummy food, good wine and girl talk!!!!!! I miss having close female friends like the friend who is visiting, we've been best friends since we were both 17, we were born on the sam day, same year, she's my sister from another mister
Then my derby league is hosting a ref/NSO clinic all weekend, and since our head ref will probably not be there (her husband is scheduled to deploy) I will be the go-to person for our league. However, I may have mentioned Hannah Grenade (who we love love love love love) is teaching the clinic along with her son Rocky launcher who was (I think) Head NSO at Western Regionals last weekend. And yeah, they're both bad asses, and just wonderful human beings.
Saturday night we have a bout against Santa Cruz, Sunday ref clinic continues and then we are having a second waaaaaaay after party Sunday afternoon. It;s a private shindig and should be awesome, we are expecting around 200 derby people!!!!
Honestly, I don't know what I would do without derby. It's funny, because I wrote a long blog after I broke my ankle about "what it is about derby that I love so much" and as time has passed, as I've met so many fantastic people from other leagues, who have helped our league grow, my love and attachment to not only the sport but the people grows. You can't separate the two no matter how hard you try. Skating is going okay, slow, and I'm frustrated because I can;t do as much as I want to, but I have to remind myself that it will come in time. I had major surgery, am still dealing with the injuries caused to my back and hips, through stretching and chiropractic work. I am achy all the time, and I am going back with a big grin. The damage done to my body is outweighed by what it has done for my spirit, attitude, and the gradual improvement of my confidence.
I still don;t know if I will stay as a ref and work on becoming a skating ref, or if I plan on playing. I want to play, even if it's just for one season, and imagine that I may play for a while and then switch to reffing. We'll see...
Another minor celebration for me, I wrote a while back about how I was going on the insulin pump for my diabetes. So a perfect A1c (a blood test that basically evaluates your blood sugar levels by testing the amount of glucose attached to your blood cells) is 6. My last A1c before going on the pump was 10.6, which is quite high and not good. After 6 weeks on the pump I am down to 7.5!!!!!!!! I can't even remember the last time my A1c was that good!!!!! Possibly high school, but I think even before that. So my goal toward better health over the past year is well on it's way. My diabetes is getting back in great control, I feel better, I have more energy, things are pretty good.
Oh yeah and on Monday, after roller derby craziness all weekend I get to go see Gogol Bordello play again!!!!!!!!!

Well if it's any consolation I won't be in Chicago either. Cop (one of the JRs on my crew from westerns) is getting married and I'm a groomsman. Have fun tomorrow, I wish I could be there!
