what you wrote was so astute ...totally sums up what I'm trying to take from the experience. I may be pissed at her for being a chicken shit when it comes to communication, but I still wish her well and hope my honesty helps her to wake up and learn to treat others better. The truth is always better than silence.

yeah ...it's gonna be a while before I can look back on this one fondly. I put a lot of genuine value in the idea of remaining friends. It really eats at me that this time it doesn't seem to be an option. I accept a certain degree of fault for pushing so hard for communication, but even if I were more patient, I'm not so sure it would have made a difference. (I'm clearly a little more grumpy today ...slept on my neck wrong and it's all kinds of seized up today)

There are so many aspects of this to which I was nodding my head and raising my lighter to you in appreciation and recognition.
I found my best "family" dinners to be the ones I spent with the misfit toys we gathered along the way in a variety of foreign territories.
Nowadays, if we just pin down at least one traditional family dinner with relatives we can bow out of the rest claiming to be embracing the traditions we have created on our own and for our own. This diverts the rabid beasts, I mean relatives, and allows us the kind of family time we can enjoy.
