Why do I always forget to check if a foreign film is subtitled or dubbed? This is the second time I've rented a movie, only to realize at home that it is dubbed...nothing makes a film seem more ridiculous.
The first time was with And God Created Woman with Brigitte Bardot, and she was given the stupidest voice ever...tonight it was Like Water For Chocolate. I don't know if anyone's seen the subtitled version, but the dubbed version blows. I'm thinking it must be the budget voiceover actors they hired, it reminded me of this film I saw called Mad Foxes (aka Los Violadores) where the dubbing was so off from what was happening, that it seemed they just pulled some suave guy off the street to read lines off a page. At least that movie was an awesomely terrible Euro-trash bloodfest with killer lines like "Sons of bitches, here I am", read totally straight faced. They really new how to dub movies in the 70s, it's a lost art I guess.
Speaking of dubbing, a movie I was in a few years back is apparently going to be dubbed in German and Japanese by the international distributors...that will be funny. That will perhaps be the only film I actually look forward to seeing dubbed, haha!
